Short Note

Whilst trying to find a suggestion for a text for this piece, Neil Price met with a musical friend in London who is Churchwarden of St. Bartholomew the Great in the City. Knowing Neil’s Orkney connection, the friend wistfully mentioned how nice it would be for his church to have a “house piece” written by the Master of the Queen’s Music. Neil reported back and it transpired that Max knew the famous Norman church well. For a text, Max turned to the Liber Usualis the plainsong setting of all texts relating to the Catholic church year and found this prayer for 24 August, the Festival of St. Bartholomew.
